Biography: Don Pavlish

A long-time self-described "computer geek", Don has created a number of web sites which have been the receipient of a wide range of honors, including Geek Site of the Day, the MDLink Best of Campus Award, and the Yahoo Cool Site of the Week, and have been featured in newspapers and magazines around the world including The New York Times, USA Today, and Fast Company, as well as on BBC Radio One and ABC Radio Australia.

Originally from Chagrin Falls, Ohio and a graduate of New York University's Tisch School of the Arts, Don Pavlish has additionally counted film and television among his interests for many years. While in high school he produced and directed a 30-second public service announcement for a Cleveland-area homeless shelter that was screened at the regional Emmy awards ceremony.

His freshman year at NYU, Don wrote and directed an experimental radio piece titled Cassie: Points West that was awarded second place in the annual Tony Hawkins Award for Radio Drama. He continued to explore an interest in radio the following year by co-producing and hosting a weekly anthology series on WNYU-FM.

Turning his attention to film, Don wrote and directed a 10-minute short shot on location in rural Ohio. Titled Cracker Jack Makes a Movie, the film has been screened at the NYU Fundamentals Festival and was voted an audience favorite at the Cleveland Off-Hollywood Film Festival. That same year, he co-wrote and directed Home Again, a comedy video short that was also selected to be screened at the NYU Fundamentals Festival.

In the summer of 1996, Don premiered a 60-minute comedy video he wrote, directed and produced titled Captain Magnesium: The Motion Picture. Held as a fund-raiser for the Ronald McDonald House of Cleveland, the premiere was followed by a live concert featuring the seven bands that appear on the movie's soundtrack. To promote the event, Don oversaw a successful publicity campaign that consisted of print, radio, television, and internet promotions.

In his final year at NYU, Don created the web component of a sitcom pilot that he co-wrote and directed titled Sitcom 2000. Upon graduation he spent a year in New York as a production manager at a large, uber-hip Silicon Alley interactive agency, where he was involved in the creation and marketing of several sites for Fortune 500 companies and charities.

In June 1998 Don returned to the fresh air and blue skies of the Midwest, and is producing web sites and CD-ROMs for Cleveland's LIVE Multimedia.

In his spare time he reads up on American history, politics, and media theory, goes to a lot of movies, and is trying to catch up on all the roller coasters he missed while living in NY.
